Artist Of The Week - Meet Audrey-Anne Séguin aka R.E.Y.A.N

Who are you?

Great passionate, committed and creative, I have been singing since I was very young. The arts in general are very oxygenating and allow me to express myself through music (Pop, musical theater, R&B, soul), fashion (especially local), dance (ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, hip-hop), theater and cinema. Communication and trust are the key for me. My projects are an amalgam of experiences in the studio, on stage and through writing. I consider myself a good mix between spontaneity and reflection.

When did you start singing?

I was very young. About 3-4 years old, in my mother's car with "The Divas", Celine Dion and Britney. Then, I started to be interested in shows, performance, making people laugh and especially the desire to dance. I was very much influenced by 90's pop music, but also a lot of Quebec francophone music due to my family background. I have always been very curious and energetic. I liked to express myself and show that the arts have no limits, neither of age, nor of talent etc... I started taking lessons more seriously at the age of 8, after a few amateur shows that quickly made me understand that music helped me define myself and feel myself. Soon after high school I was given a chance, I was given a platform, a stage and recognition. I think that's when I really understood that I could make a real career out of it. I had the chance to meet dynamic singing teachers who were so talented, especially at the interpretation level. I quickly developed a taste for improving  my techniques, my love for the voice and the theater.

What's the best advice someone has given you?

To be myself and never give up. I believe that we choose what we want to attract, visualize and put forward in our lives... as I am naturally positive, this kind of advice has always helped me to get back on my feet. I'm authentic and proud. I think that things don't affect me anymore and  it allows me to live in the moment while getting out of my comfort zone. My voice is the most sincere and natural thing I have to offer people.

For you, what is music?

Music is exciting, it helps me realize myself. There is nothing in the world that puts more stars in my eyes than singing in front of people who are happy to enjoy the moment and the arts.
Music is a relationship with myself and with others.

It's what keeps me going, it's what keeps me discovering and surpassing myself. So many beautiful sounds and ways to create... inspiring techniques and different, unique people.

If you could do the first part of an artist, which one would it be? And why?

I have often said that I would have liked to perform with the band RUSH, little "Inside" with my dad, with whom I went to see them 3 times.
But very good question. I would say, based on the shows I've attended for the audience they reach (especially open-minded): Lady Gaga, Stromae, Ellie Goulding and The Head & The Heart.

They are all people who perform with heart and staging. Whether it's through unusual harmonies, colorful choreographies or clothes that push the limits of performance. They are all artists who have given me unique moments and who I feel like they are reaching an audience that I find very appealing.
